This position supports the clinical mission of the Division of Hospital Medicine by providing inpatient care to patients across multiple VCU Health System locations, including a home-based inpatient service. The role involves admitting, managing, and discharging patients on hospitalist-led inpatient services, ensuring 24/7 service coverage.
Responsibilities
- Perform admissions for hourly hospitalist services
- Provide cross-coverage to admitted patients
- Round on admitted patients
- Discharge admitted patients
- Manage patients on hospitalist-led inpatient services
- Collaborate with advanced practice providers to assure service coverage
- Comply with institutional policies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, and billing
- Work effectively with other members of the interprofessional team
- Work with institutional staff and administration to attain strategic objectives of VCU Health System
Requirements
- Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine
- Direct experience managing complex inpatients
- A solid understanding of the hospitalist role and function
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility or a commitment to do so
Nice to Have
- Experience working with advanced practice providers to support optimal care
