Instruct High School English as a Second Language (ESL) students by planning and implementing a program of study that meets individual needs, creating a conducive learning environment, and guiding students toward curriculum goals. Assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with district specialists to support learning challenges.
Responsibilities
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times
- Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student maturity
- Guide the learning process toward district curriculum goals and communicate clear objectives to students
- Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with physical limitations and student capabilities
- Implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and performance expectations
- Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations
- Diagnose student learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as required
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Follow the SPS code of conduct for the classroom and enforce fair and just rules of behavior
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and make written evaluations as required
- Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements and personal expectations
- Actively participate in the contractually-approved teacher evaluation process
- Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making
- Attend established traditional school sponsored activities, including Back to School Night and Open House
- Contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
Requirements
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area
- Appropriate content/program area educator license (English as a Second Language) and grade level (5-12) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Bachelor's Degree
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
