Heavy Civil Estimator

About This Role

Prepare detailed contract proposal estimates for heavy civil construction projects, focusing on dirt work, underground utilities, and concrete, while ensuring cost accuracy and compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare proposal estimates for heavy civil construction covering dirt work, underground utilities, and concrete
• Review proposal specifications and drawings to ascertain scope of work and required estimate contents
• Determine applicable project plans and specifications
• Prepare estimates by performing complete takeoff of scope of work
• Develop accurate estimated costs for the applicable scope of work
• Maintain the estimating cost database to ensure up-to-date costs
• Review design options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or material availability
• Obtain bids from subcontractors
• Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements
• Support other department personnel as needed

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience estimating in the construction industry
• Knowledge of construction design, methods and finance
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organizational skills
• Skilled in assuming responsibility and reaching deadlines
• Familiarity / Proficiency with HCSS Heavy Bid, Trimble Business Center, BlueBeam, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Primavera P6, Building Connected, and Viewpoint

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience
• Minimum 3 years' experience estimating in the construction industry
