Health & Safety HR Specialist

About This Role

The Health & Safety HR Specialist focuses on workplace safety issues for Sheriff's Office employees, assisting with workers' compensation, work accommodations, and FMLA matters. This role involves maintaining medical files, monitoring infectious disease prevention, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with workers' compensation paperwork, work accommodations, and Family Medical Leave (FMLA) matters
• Conduct yearly fit testing of employees
• Maintain employee medical files and monitor the infectious disease prevention program
• Process new hire medical paperwork and coordinate the workers’ compensation and return to work program
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, ADA, Family Medical Leave, and applicable state and federal requirements
• Generate and submit monthly/annual infection control reports and monitor infectious disease exposure reporting
• Identify, establish, and monitor workplace safety regulations/compliance indicators and assist with workplace safety inspections
• Participate on the safety committee and coordinate wellness vaccination programs
• Disseminate and review family medical leave information and requests, preparing responses
• Review all pre-employment medical files and maintain confidential medical files

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of related experience
• Demonstrated skill in computer and office equipment
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with workers’ compensation, FMLA, and ADA processes

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Two years minimum related experience in a full-time capacity within the last three years, directly related to the position.
