About This Role

This Fleet Manager position oversees and maintains the organization's fleet of trucks, trailers, and other specialized equipment. This role is responsible for developing maintenance schedules, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing departmental staff and expenses.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee or delegate responsibility for the day-to-day workflow of the department and staff
  • Recruit, screen, interview, and hire drivers
  • Coordinate with HR for onboarding, orientation, and documentation of driver qualification files
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations
  • Handle employee discipline and termination in accordance with company policy
  • Develop schedules and procedures for routine maintenance and non-routine repair of all fleet vehicles
  • Audit and review drivers’ electronic logs and trip sheets for accuracy and HOS regulation adherence
  • Collaborate with supervisors and staff to manage and reduce fuel and labor costs
  • Calculate payroll from timesheets, trip tickets, and Business Central Reports
  • Establish a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles
  • Draft and present reports on department operations and quarterly safety meetings
  • Prepare, present, and manage drivers' quality safety meetings with relevant topics for ongoing training and regulatory compliance
  • Perform all registration and licensing renewals for an apportioned fleet (UCR, IFTA, 2290, ad Valorem, IRP, Biennial updates)
  • Develop and enforce procedures, policies, and safety protocols for all fleet services staff

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of fleet management and operations
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prepare and adhere to a budget and to monitor and reduce expenses
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, E-Roads or similar software
  • Broad knowledge of all applicable rules and regulations of safety and compliance standards set forth by FMCSA and the DOT

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Five years of experience in fleet maintenance or repair with two years in a supervisory role
