About This Role

This role is responsible for managing the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet, including trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units, ensuring efficient and safe operations. The manager will lead a team of mechanics, maintain compliance with regulations, and optimize departmental goals.

Responsibilities

Manage equipment maintenance and repair on trucks, trailers, liftgates, yard trucks, and refrigeration units
Ensure efficient and safe fleet operation while maintaining compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company policies
Direct the work of fleet repair mechanics, maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards
Manage daily vehicle work orders to ensure timely repairs and minimize equipment downtime
Handle truck and trailer breakdowns, road accident clean-ups, and vehicle recovery
Oversee the clean-up of hazardous waste material spills within the repair facility
Manage the department operating budget and costs, processing claims in a timely manner
Identify opportunities for cost reduction or efficiency gain through innovation
Conduct routine audits of mechanics' completed work and ensure CSA management compliance
Lead, coach, and develop the team, ensuring reviews and succession planning are completed
Assist with training new mechanics and optimizing parts inventory control
Maintain vendor relationships and ensure accuracy of the parts inventory

Requirements

High school education or equivalent
5 years of experience in maintenance for fleet facilities with refrigeration units
Understanding of industry safety standards for commercial vehicles
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to use Microsoft word processing and spreadsheet applications
