About This Role

This Finance Professional 3 role requires an individual to provide complex professional accounting and financial management services, focusing on grants management, financial analysis, and compliance for academic and administrative units within CFANS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex professional accounting requiring application of general accounting principles and University policies
  • Develop sponsored project budgets and prepare grant proposal administrative and budget related submission documents
  • Interpret grant and contract regulations and resolve complex pre-award and post-award grant issues
  • Prepare financial reports for internal and external audiences
  • Research the source and cause of discrepancies in accounting systems
  • Provide pre-award grant support for the FANS/APEC division, assisting faculty and P&A staff on grant proposals
  • Approve and monitor allowable and allocable expense documents following agency/federal guidelines and University policies
  • Prepare ad hoc reports of sponsored and non-sponsored funds and analyze trends
  • Manage O&M, State Special, research and extension, sales & services, unrestricted, and UM Foundation accounts
  • Attend courses, workshops, seminars, and other meetings for professional development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Four years of professional accounting experience or equivalent
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in proposal preparation and managing sponsored and non-sponsored accounts
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in spreadsheet development
  • Able to work independently and as part of a finance team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and four years of professional accounting experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of professional accounting experience
