Finance Director

About This Role

The Finance Director is responsible for leading and directing all financial operations for Polk County. This role encompasses budget preparation, financial reporting, grant coordination, audit management, and providing financial advice to county leadership.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the annual budget and Capital Improvement Plan, assisting department heads with amendments.
• Prepare the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and submit audit information to relevant agencies.
• Prepare monthly budget reports, monitor expenditures, and manage department budgets.
• Coordinate and monitor grant receipts and expenditures, submitting payment requests as needed.
• Coordinate the annual audit, prepare related reports, and oversee internal operating systems.
• Manage all financial accounts, review monthly bank statements, and analyze collateral.
• Provide financial advice to the County Manager, Board of Commissioners, elected officials, and department heads.
• Prepare forecast reports and assist with long-range financial planning.
• Oversee the county 's cash management and investment functions.
• Train, assign, direct, supervise, evaluate, and discipline finance personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor 's degree in a related occupational field
• More than five years of related experience
• Knowledge of GAAP
• Knowledge of GASB guidelines
• Knowledge of investment and banking policies
• Knowledge of budget development and management principles
• Knowledge of local government operations
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws
• Knowledge of public finance and fiscal planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor 's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
• More than five years of related experience required.
