About This Role

The Faculty Assistant will provide administrative, logistical, and relational support to Professor Marshall Ganz and the Practicing Democracy Project (PDP) at Harvard Kennedy School. This role involves managing course support, calendar and schedule, communications, and relational stewardship for a dynamic, people-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for Professor Ganz’s HKS courses including managing course websites, editing materials, obtaining copyright permissions, and handling logistical needs.
  • Manage Professor Ganz’s schedule, coordinating meetings with students, colleagues, team members, and external partners.
  • Manage incoming emails and phone communications, drafting and organizing correspondence with various stakeholders.
  • Track ongoing tasks, project deadlines, and priorities for Professor Ganz and the PDP team.
  • Maintain contact with a wide network of students, colleagues, and organizing partners, tracking connections and following up on requests.
  • Debrief with Professor Ganz after meetings to clarify next steps and execute timely follow-up actions.
  • Arrange travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and itineraries.
  • Maintain PDP’s contact database and update Professor Ganz’s and the PDP’s website with recent news and announcements.

Requirements

  • 2 years of office administration and customer service experience
  • Proficiency in email/calendar management tools (Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Outlook)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of discretion and professionalism

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience in an office environment, including demonstrated office administration and customer service skills

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity or interest in civic engagement, public leadership, or social movements
  • Comfort working independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Willingness to learn database systems like Salesforce
