Exhibit Interpreter

About This Role

Serve as an Exhibit Interpreter to engage guests, facilitating educational programs like animal chats and tours, while promoting the Zoo's mission to protect nature.

Responsibilities

• Present animal chats
• Facilitate behind-the-scenes tours and Animal Adventure programs
• Help guests learn about the Zoo's experiences
• Display a professional, positive, respectful, cooperative, and enthusiastic attitude
• Communicate ideas in an engaging verbal manner
• Work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures
• Respond to difficult controversial questions appropriately
• Assist with departmental projects during lower visitation periods
• Work independently
• Assess situations, use good procedure/judgment and follow through

Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures
• Effective communication skills
• Electronic media/technology, computer and word processing abilities
• Excellent public speaking skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to assess situations, use good procedure/judgment and follow through
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Working knowledge of interpretive techniques

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field

• Prior experience working with the public, especially children, in a formal or informal educational institution
