The Equipment Maintenance Manager oversees all maintenance operations for one or more operating companies, including scheduling and directing maintenance shop personnel. This role ensures the service and repair of vehicles and equipment in compliance with established policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all maintenance operations and ensure maintenance personnel adhere to established policies for inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment
- Ensure all company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements are followed
- Authorize and arrange for procurement of parts, supplies, tools, and machinery
- Contract for services not performed in-house
- Consult with Vice-President of Fleet and operations management to make recommendations on vehicle and equipment replacement needs
- Participate in the budget-making process pertaining to maintenance operations
- Administer periodic inspection and audit of company vehicles, equipment, and facilities for safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance
- Identify potential safety hazards and take appropriate action to ensure personnel safety
- Investigate and evaluate cause, extent, and financial impacts of damage to equipment and vehicles involved in accidents
- Drive a Company vehicle from time to time
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Eight years related industry experience
- Four years in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations that govern maintenance operations related to job site safety protocols and potential job hazards
- Experience in the administration of comprehensive fleet and equipment preventative maintenance programs
- Experience and knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits
- Experience and knowledge of inventory control processes
- Ability to perform routine calculations and write reports and correspondence
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid Class "A" or “B” Driver's License with no air brake or automatic transmission restrictions required within six months of hire
- Familiarity with principles of employee training, supervision, and evaluation
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Eight years related industry experience, including four years in a supervisory role. Experience in the administration of comprehensive fleet and equipment preventative maintenance programs.

- Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills
- Experience and knowledge of working in a refuse/recycling maintenance facility or related environment with heavy vehicles, landfill equipment and processing equipment (such as: balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and controls)
- Experience in managing union personnel
