Analyze and interpret environmental laws and regulations to ensure compliance, specifically focusing on National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reports and supporting State and local compliance requirements. This role involves performing technical analyses for various resource areas and documenting findings in environmental deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Research, analyze, and interpret Federal environmental laws, regulations, and guidance
- Evaluate policy implications of proposed legislation, regulations, and agency actions
- Draft and revise Environmental Reports for NEPA and briefing materials
- Support development of internal environmental technical processes and compliance frameworks
- Track regulatory changes and assess risk, compliance gaps, and operational impacts
- Assist with environmental permitting processes (air, water, waste, land use, etc.)
- Support compliance with NEPA, NHPA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act
- Interface with regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC, DOE) to clarify requirements and respond to inquiries
- Review technical studies and consultant reports for accuracy and policy alignment
- Prepare materials and lead meetings with regulators
Requirements
- Working knowledge of environmental laws and regulations (Federal, State, and local)
- Ability to interpret statutes, rules, permits, and guidance documents and assess complex regulatory requirements
- Ability to evaluate likelihood and severity of different regulatory strategies
- Understanding of NRC and DOE regulatory processes and agency roles
- Familiarity with NEPA documentation
- Ability to write clear, accurate technical and regulatory documents
- Excellent communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D in Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 2-10 years of experience (Intermediate or Experienced level)
Nice to Have
- Experience in NEPA compliance with the NRC or DOE
- Experience in Ohio, Tennessee, Idaho, Alaska
