This role involves serving as an industrial waste compliance inspector for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), providing technical and regulatory guidance to IDEM staff and external entities. The position ensures industrial waste is correctly identified and managed, evaluating compliance activities for various industrial facilities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an environmental expert and provide guidance to regulated communities, government officials, attorneys, and staff
- Perform project management duties to ensure effective and timely management of program area needs
- Research state and federal guidance, laws, and regulations related to permits
- Conduct surveys, inspections, and investigations of facilities and sites
- Use compliance and enforcement tools to ensure regulated sources return to compliance
- Support various programs in the assigned agency in multiple capacities
- Assist with the preparation of sampling and analysis work plans and conduct field work
- Conduct technical analysis and/or provide technical insights to assess environmental impacts
- Communicate effectively with responsible parties, consultants, stakeholders, and public officials regarding permits, laws, and program-related inquiries
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Public Health or a related field
- At least two (2) years of experience in an environmental or environmental public health field
- Valid IN driver's license
- Broad knowledge of environmental protection principles and practices
- Thorough knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydrology, mathematics, engineering, and other environmental sciences
- Thorough knowledge of soil, water, air sampling, laboratory analysis and interpretation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Public Health or a related field
- At least two (2) years of experience in an environmental or environmental public health field
