Environmental Lab Technician Trainee

About This Role

Perform technical laboratory work by collecting water and wastewater samples and conducting various chemical and microbiological tests to ensure environmental quality.

Responsibilities

• Collect water, wastewater, and sludge samples and prepare for testing
• Calibrate, maintain, and set up equipment for laboratory operations
• Clean laboratory equipment and facilities
• Perform chemical and mathematical calculations
• Prepare and maintain quality control records, report files, and daily logs
• Conduct standard and specialized chemical and microbiological examinations
• Prepare samples for shipment to other laboratories
• Operate a City vehicle daily to travel to various sampling locations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, medical technology, or a physical or natural science
• At least 24 hours of chemistry or 16 hours of microbiology, or 16 hours of biology including 4 hours of microbiology
• Ability to perform chemical and microbiological tests
• Knowledge of laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in microbiology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, medical technology, or a physical or natural science is required.
• Previous experience in technical laboratory work is preferred. No direct supervision experience required.
