Environmental Compliance Inspector

About This Role

Protect natural resources and the environment by educating the public, performing compliance inspections, and enforcing environmental regulations within the Public Works Environmental Compliance Sector.

Responsibilities

• Educate the public about environmental programs
• Perform compliance inspections
• Interpret, explain, and apply federal, state, and local environmental and water policies
• Respond to complaints regarding water waste, illicit discharges, odors, and hazardous materials
• Handle difficult and unusual situations with businesses, residents, and City personnel

Requirements

• College-level coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental science or a related field
• Two years of environmental inspection, sampling, and enforcement experience
• Experience with industrial wastewater pretreatment programs
• Ability to interpret, explain, and apply federal, state, and local environmental and water policies
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Qualifications

• Completion of twelfth grade supplemented by college-level coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental science or a related field.
• Two years of increasingly responsible environmental inspection, sampling, and enforcement experience, including some experience with industrial wastewater pretreatment programs.

Nice to Have

• Possession of a Grade II Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate
• College-level coursework in water resource management
• Broad understanding of environmental regulations including water conservation, storm water, waste water pretreatment, solid waste and recycling, and hazardous materials/waste
