Instruct adult learners in English Language Acquisition, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Prepare participants for career pathways and post-secondary education while promoting a positive and welcoming learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction based on Arizona Adult Education ELAA Standards to prepare participants for English language proficiency
- Transition participants to career pathways and/or post-secondary education
- Follow ACYR Adult Education procedures for attendance, enrollment, assessments, curriculum, and classroom management
- Participate in TABE and CLAS-E training and progress/exit test students at appropriate intervals
- Report all TABE data to Data Entry Specialist and Data and Student Service Coordinator
- Keep accurate daily attendance and submit weekly to Data Entry Specialist and monthly sign-in sheets
- Add appropriate resources to ACYR curriculum and share with staff
- Use calendar, task, and other accountability tools to create efficiencies and manage meetings
- Create lessons complying with ADE Standards and leading to academic progress for participants
- Connect students to leadership opportunities (Ambassador training for AALL)
- Set SMART goals with students and integrate them into ongoing class activities
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development as directed for ABE Program or ACYR
- Contact students who have stopped attending class and attempt to re-engage
- Recruit for potential participants and follow up with exited students
- Ensure participants are connected to appropriate community support
- Collaborate with other ACYR program managers for work trainings and job opportunities
- Attend all ABE Program meetings and engage in activities/events to support ACYR's vision and mission
- Participate in and request professional development training
- Engage in appropriate ACYR social media activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Adult Education Teaching Cert
- Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Knowledge of adult student characteristics and adult basic education content areas
- Ability to instruct students in the use of basic technology applications and integrate into instruction
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships
- Bilingual/Bicultural (preferably Spanish)
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to consistently display a positive attitude and provide high quality, effective customer service
- Ability to form strong connections with people and have understanding/compassion for low-income families
- Valid Arizona Driver's License
- Requires use of insured personal vehicle for agency business
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience teaching/working with adult learners is a must
Nice to Have
- Experience working with opportunity youth at a nonprofit organization, in an educational setting or classroom
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations and local community resources
