Engineering Consultant Lead – BESS

About This Role

This role will lead technical due diligence and independent engineering for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects, providing client-facing technical advisory support for utility-scale storage across all project phases. The consultant will conduct deep engineering analysis to produce bankable technical outputs for lenders, investors, and developers.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical due diligence, independent engineering, and lender advisory assignments for BESS projects
• Review and assess BESS designs, including batteries, PCS, EMS, balance-of-plant, and grid connection
• Evaluate technical and commercial risks across EPC, supply, O&M, and interconnection agreements
• Analyse system performance metrics such as efficiency, degradation, cycling, and warranty terms
• Advise on grid integration, dispatch strategies, and operational performance
• Support projects from early development through construction and operations
• Produce high-quality technical reports for lenders, investors, and developers
• Coordinate internal specialists to ensure timely, high-standard project delivery
• Contribute to client engagement, proposals, and business development activities

Requirements

• Proven background in technical due diligence or independent engineering
• Strong knowledge of BESS technologies (Li-ion essential)
• Experience reviewing technical specifications, contracts, and warranty structures
• Understanding of grid interconnection and regulatory requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• 8-12 years’ experience in energy storage or power sector engineering
