Join a collaborative engineering culture to perform electrical engineering work in the Transmission Relay Engineering discipline. Design and apply utility-grade relay systems to transmission and substation systems, managing small to large projects to gain diverse experience.
Responsibilities
- Ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs and adherence to policies and governmental regulations
- Commit to the Way We Work Principles, Company Standards of Business Conduct, and other Company procedures
- Develop a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence among customers and improve value for stakeholders
- Prepare sketches for Design Drafters to create relay and meter one-line diagrams, schematics and construction drawings
- Effectively perform Relay Setting Calculations for electromechanical, solid state, and microprocessor type relays
- Use Aspen One Line system-modeling program for fault current simulations and relay coordination
- Support field personnel to develop relay system testing, analyze system problems, and perform root cause analysis
- Prepare outage reports for system relay operations and disturbances utilizing relay/DFR records, and provide test letters and corrective action plans
- Perform preliminary Engineering cost estimates for feasibility studies to develop project alternatives
- Visit manufacturing facilities to witness tests on protection apparatus and prepare reports
- Participate in departmental meetings and serve on committees as required
- Inform department leads on the progress of projects, including the department budget
- Stay abreast of industry developments in the Relay and Transmission Planning field
- Actively participate in the Company's Emergency Response Plan through a designated storm assignment
- Be familiar with NERC, NPCC, and RFC standards and requirements associated with Protection systems
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
- 3-5 years minimum of engineering work experience in Relay Engineering
- Experience and/or knowledge of Transmission relay design, settings and testing
- Ability to interpret one-line, schematic, logic diagrams, and wiring drawings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, technical and computer skills
- Ability to apply good individual judgment, initiative, creativity and decision making
- Technically proficient in a broad range of engineering responsibilities and willingness to explore and implement new solutions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Driver's License
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
- 3-5 years minimum of engineering work experience in Relay Engineering; Must be an experienced relay engineer capable of running relay projects, approving drawings and fault event review; Minimum 1 year experience related to relay and control system design.
Nice to Have
- Proficiency with ASPEN and SEL/GE software
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or be in the process of qualifying for a license in NY, NJ & PA
