Engagement Specialist

About This Role

This role engages and interacts with museum visitors, facilitates programming, safeguards objects, and monitors artifacts and exhibit components to enhance the overall visitor experience at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites.

Responsibilities

• Engage and interact with visitors within the museum galleries and public spaces
• Assist with facilitation of daily programming
• Respond to visitor questions and concerns
• Safeguard objects and monitor artifacts and exhibit components
• Represent the museum at various outreach events or assist with programs occasionally
• Manage and train museum volunteers
• Prepare exhibit spaces daily for visitors and maintain a safe and inviting atmosphere
• Communicate visitor issues and concerns to security and other staff
• Manage customer complaints, incidents, and accidents professionally
• Respond to emergency situations to ensure visitor safety
• Clean and sanitize exhibit and public spaces daily
• Implement scheduled and spontaneous activities and programs within the exhibit

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work 3 or more days during the week
• Comfortable working independently and demonstrates initiative
• Strong presentation, communication and customer service skills
• Collaborative work ethic
• Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Entry-level with preferred experience in education, theater, and/or customer service.

Nice to Have

• Background in education, theater, and/or customer service
• Experience working with children and families in an informal and/or formal environment
• Experience with hands-on, interactive program development and facilitation
