About This Role

The Energy Engineer will provide direction and oversight on operation and maintenance activities across The New York Public Library’s portfolio of real estate, ensuring all locations operate efficiently. This role works with vendors and project managers on designing, specifying, programming, and integrating new and existing building management systems.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and manage multiple building automation installation projects across NYPL’s portfolio.
Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting of BMS and solar systems.
Teach staff to identify opportunities for improvement in energy efficiency and sustainability and how to execute such measures.
Improve NYPL's ability to provide library patrons and staff with an energy efficient, safe, and welcoming environment.
Support the design and development of energy efficiency and/or clean energy projects.
Provide technical assessments, design review, and Measurement and Verification (M&V).
Support energy-efficient operations and maintenance, including building optimization, commissioning, and retro-commissioning.
Provide overall support for the unit’s and City’s mission, including participating in special projects and acting as a subject matter expert.

Requirements

2+ years of experience in energy management, commissioning, building automation controls systems or mechanical or electrical engineering
Extensive experience in commissioning mechanical and electrical equipment
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical design drawings
Familiarity with technical project management operations
Familiarity with NYC mechanical and energy codes, as well as ASHRAE guidelines for high-performance buildings
Good technical writing and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and business relationships
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, or electrical)
2+ years of experience in energy management, commissioning, building automation controls systems or mechanical or electrical engineering, with extensive experience in commissioning mechanical and electrical equipment.

Nice to Have

Experience creating and conducting Measurement and Verification Plans per the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP)
