Join a multi-specialty and emergency hospital as an Emergency Veterinary Technician, delivering life-saving care and supporting criticalists, emergency clinicians, and specialists. This role involves direct patient care, monitoring, diagnostics, and surgical assistance in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and medication administration via all routes in emergency and critical care settings
- Monitor patients at risk for cardiac and respiratory arrest and initiate CPR as needed
- Perform patient assessments using various monitoring techniques and communicate with pet owners regarding patient history
- Utilize various diagnostics, including radiology, obtaining and handling patient samples, and performing in-house laboratory tests
- Monitor anesthesia and provide surgical assistance, documenting procedures and responding to emergencies
- Partner with department teams to plan and coordinate anesthesia protocols and communicate patient status
- Advocate for the well-being and comfort of patients from arrival to discharge
Requirements
- 1-2 years of nursing experience in a veterinary setting
- Proven experience in ER, Urgent Care, or Specialty/Referral practice preferred
- Strong knowledge of veterinary anesthetic drugs and their effects
- Skilled in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, drug calculations, and other technical skills
- Strong medical math skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks
- Compassionate, detail-oriented, and a team player
- Ability to lift 40 lbs
- Availability for a full-time schedule (36+ hours per week)
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of nursing experience in a veterinary setting, preferably in ER, Urgent Care, or Specialty/Referral practice
Nice to Have
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or equivalent certification
