Emergency Services Technician (Pediatric ER)

About This Role

This Emergency Services Technician role assists Emergency Room staff by performing patient treatments and procedures under supervision, participating in admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and maintaining a clean work environment, primarily during night shifts including rotating weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform approved patient treatments and procedures (e.g., accucheck, catheterization, non-medicated enemas) under supervision
• Expediently answer patient call lights and assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living
• Participate in patient admission, transfer, and discharge by greeting patients, orienting them, taking vital signs, and completing paperwork
• Provide safe care for patient clothing and valuables by accurately describing and securing items
• Retrieve medications from the pneumatic tube system or pharmacy and deliver to the nurse or secure location
• Answer incoming telephone and intercom calls, relaying messages appropriately
• Assist in providing proper identification and care for deceased patients and comfort family members
• Ensure that the work area is kept neat, clean, orderly, and safe at all times
• Maintain adequate inventory levels by preparing requisitions, verifying receipt, and ensuring proper filling
• Observe and adhere to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follow safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Specialized Training
• Nurse Aide Certification or one year experience in emergency medicine environment or Certified Medical Assistant or Louisiana state EMT license or a Junior or Senior in an accredited nursing program
• BLS Certification
