Design, prototype, and test embedded hardware for rugged ocean systems, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. This role involves circuit board design, analog and digital sensor integration, and battery/power supply development for Department of Defense projects.
Responsibilities
- Identify engineering challenges and recommend component and/or system designs to solve them
- Design, prototype, and test system components in collaboration with project leads and team members
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team to integrate prototype components into full-scale engineering prototype systems
- Contribute to component-level and system-level testing throughout development
- Conduct research and testing to understand and correct component-level design and manufacturing flaws
- Develop and maintain design and manufacturing documentation and procedures
- Mentor early-career electrical engineers assigned to the engineering team
Requirements
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
- 3+ years of experience in circuit design and CAD layout software (Altium Designer, OrCAD, PADS, etc.)
- 3+ years of experience in detailed design and prototyping of electronic components
- Experience in analog and digital circuit board design, layout, manufacturing and testing
- Experience with microcontroller firmware design and test (C preferred)
- Experience with FPGA firmware design and test (VHDL preferred)
- Experience with embedded digital signal processing (DSP)
- Experience with Linux kernel device driver development
- Experience with fiber-optics hardware design and test
- Experience with battery assembly, welding tabs and related tooling
- Technical proficiency with mechanical assembly, soldering and electrical connectors
- Working knowledge of common test equipment (DC power supplies, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, vendor specific programmers or debuggers)
- Knowledge of electronics fabrication and assembly
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and data logging tools
- Familiarity with basic electrical safety and lab best practices
- Proficiency in Electrical CAD software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio)
Qualifications
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university
- 3+ years of experience in circuit design and CAD layout software; 3+ years in detailed design and prototyping of electronic components
