This role involves assembling, building, and repairing complex custom non-destructive testing systems, working with mechanical and controls engineers to ensure machines function correctly. The technician will be challenged to develop skills while precision-building multi-faceted systems collaboratively.
Responsibilities
- Assemble fabricated and purchased parts using assembly drawings and parts lists provided by engineering
- Perform high complexity mechanical assembly requiring fitting, alignment, and adjustment to very close tolerances
- Execute mechanical alterations and additions during debug phases
- Collaborate with mechanical and controls engineers to ensure machine functionality
- Perform various non-repetitive mechanical assembly functions using hand or power tools
- Build machines and sub-assemblies to design requirements and customer specifications
- Read and interpret schematics
- Use test equipment to perform functional testing
- Record appropriate documentation and test data
- Build and wire mechanical fixtures, transducer mounts, immersion tanks, and linear rail systems
Requirements
- Strong maintenance/mechanical background
- Versatility in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of machine tool assembly and typical machine shop equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, hand tools)
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and electrical schematics/wiring diagrams
Nice to Have
- Automation Machine Build Assembly experience
- Previous experience with mechanical assembly and maintenance in the automation industry
