Electrician II

About This Role

Install, troubleshoot, and repair various electrical equipment and systems, including motors, lighting, and controls for the university. Provide assistance to other electrical technicians and work independently on tasks.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair all types of electrical equipment, motors, and motor controls
• Run conduit, pull wire, mount electrical boxes, and connect switches and receptacles
• Troubleshoot existing circuits for problems and repairs
• Perform service calls and work orders, maintaining records and performing preventative maintenance
• Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electric systems following detailed operational and maintenance procedures
• Ensure replacement parts and equipment meet specifications for energizing repaired or replaced items
• Assist in planning new or modified installations to minimize waste and ensure access for future maintenance
• Perform periodic tests, detailed inspections, and preventative maintenance of electrical systems and equipment
• Perform corrective maintenance and repairs of discrepancies found during inspections
• Maintain records of inspections and maintenance by completing daily work completion logs
• Follow all relevant safety codes, guidelines, and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Clean and maintain tools and perform routine maintenance on special equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of related experience in the electrical trade, or 1-3 years with equivalent education and experience
• Ability to understand and follow instructions and work under limited supervision
• Valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours
• Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties in typical Virginia climate
• Provide own hand tools

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of related experience in the electrical trade, or 1-3 years with equivalent education and experience

Nice to Have

• Willingness and ability to obtain aerial lift certifications
