The Educational Assistant Level IV - Mentor provides guidance, training, and professional support to new or seasoned Educational Assistants (EAs) within the district. This role acts as a liaison between administrative goals and classroom practice, ensuring support staff effectively assist students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-the-job training and job shadowing for colleagues
- Offer constructive feedback to EAs on improving instructional and behavioral management skills
- Model effective instructional strategies and assist with lesson differentiation
- Guide EAs in using Positive Behavior Support and de-escalation techniques for complex learners
- Help implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Assist staff with understanding special education protocols
- Observe and support staff in handling conflict resolution
- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff and student observations
- Lead orientation sessions for new hires
- Facilitate professional development workshops on classroom management and other topics
- Maintain mentoring logs to track progress of mentees
Requirements
- Meet highly qualified standards as defined by the state
- Completion of AA degree, 60 college level credits or completion of para-pro exam
- Completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen
- Reliable transportation to visit multiple sites
Qualifications
- AA degree, 60 college level credits or completion of para-pro exam
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in a second language, American Sign Language, or Braille
