Director of Engineering (Product)

About This Role

Lead multiple engineering teams focusing on Large Language Models and advanced machine learning systems within a deep-tech company recognized as a leader in quantum software and AI. Shape technical strategy, influence product direction, and collaborate with research, platform, and business stakeholders to deliver robust ML solutions.

Responsibilities

• Manage and scale multiple engineering squads focused on model development and evaluation
• Foster a culture of delivery excellence within engineering teams
• Align ML initiatives with broader company goals, influencing decision-makers on modelling trends and data-driven product priorities
• Act as the vital link between Research, Platform, Marketing, and Leadership to ensure seamless model lifecycles and downstream application
• Define best practices for model experimentation and evaluation to ensure results are scalable, reproducible, and ethically sound
• Make critical trade-off decisions regarding model complexity vs. efficiency and experimental vs. production-ready approaches
• Elevate the next generation of Engineering Managers and Tech Leads, supporting their technical depth and professional growth

Requirements

• 8+ years in Software Engineering, Data Science, or related domains
• 2+ years in a formal leadership role managing high-performing technical teams
• Master’s degree (or equivalent industry experience) in Computer Science, Physics, Data Science, or a STEM discipline
• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced architectures, including fine-tuning, benchmark design, and evaluation frameworks
• Strong grasp of the product management lifecycle and the ability to deliver model-based products on time and within scope
• Data-driven mindset with a keen eye for technical detail, particularly in measuring model accuracy, reliability, and throughput
• Exceptional command of English

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or equivalent industry experience) in Computer Science, Physics, Data Science, or a STEM discipline
• 8+ years in Software Engineering, Data Science, or related domains, with at least 2 years in a formal leadership role managing high-performing technical teams
