Dietary Aide

About This Role

This Dietary Aide role involves preparing and serving meals, cleaning, and maintaining sanitary conditions in the dietary department. The position works directly with patients, particularly geriatric and healthcare patients, ensuring their nutritional needs are met through proper food handling and service.

Responsibilities

• Perform various duties associated with the production and service of patient meals
• Assist in maintaining the dietary department in a safe, secure, and sanitary manner
• Receive and store food and supplies properly using good food handling techniques
• Scrape, stack, wash, and sanitize dishes, flatware, utensils, pots/pans, and remove broken items
• Clean and sanitize the dish machine, dish room, and work area, including trash cans
• Assist cooks in preparing and serving foods for all diets, including therapeutic diets, according to planned menus
• Set up trays for service, sort diet cards, and check trays for accuracy before delivery
• Buss tables in the dining room and clean/sanitize table tops
• Attend in-service and other necessary training
• Adhere to the department's dress code

Requirements

• Sincere interest in foodservice and working with geriatric and other healthcare patients
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn food preparation and simple cooking skills
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn therapeutic and modified diet information
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn correct sanitation procedures
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks daily
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
• Ability to speak and understand English
• Ability to read and understand labels on chemicals and MSDS sheets and use products safely and correctly
• Good mental and physical condition
• Ability to work cooperatively and productively with all partners and departments
• Punctuality and attendance for scheduled shifts
• Ability to work under supervision
