Design Manager

About This Role

This role involves leading complex design efforts for large-scale data center and mission-critical projects, from early planning through construction delivery. The Design Manager will be the single point of accountability for the project’s design lifecycle, ensuring alignment, quality, constructability, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and integrate all design stakeholders (owner, tenant, engineers, consultants) to ensure alignment with project objectives, standards, and delivery strategy.
• Oversee design progression across all phases (Feasibility, Front-End Planning, FEL1–FEL3, Detailed Design, Construction Administration) to maintain continuity, quality, and technical integrity.
• Manage design through stage gates and deliverables to ensure informed decisions, controlled risks, and clearly defined scope.
• Confirm design outputs support constructability, procurement sequencing, and schedule execution, reducing downstream rework and delivery risk.
• Lead team coordination during construction to preserve design intent, resolve technical issues efficiently, and protect overall project outcomes.
• Develop and manage the overall design management plan, including schedules, deliverables, and coordination strategies.
• Drive interdisciplinary coordination between architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and specialty systems.
• Review and validate design packages for compliance with project standards, client requirements, and regulatory codes.
• Identify design risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
• Support value engineering and optimization initiatives without compromising reliability or performance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in design management, engineering, or project delivery for data centers or mission-critical facilities
• Strong understanding of data center infrastructure including power, cooling, redundancy strategies, and reliability requirements
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and consultants
• Experience with FEL processes, stage-gated design delivery, and front-end planning
• Strong knowledge of constructability, procurement sequencing, and construction integration
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while supporting geographically diverse projects

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in design management, engineering, or project delivery for data centers or mission-critical facilities.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting hyperscale or colocation data center programs
• Familiarity with BIM coordination and digital design workflows
