About This Role

This role involves leading the design process for civil/geotechnical disciplines on various construction projects, ensuring design maximizes client value and adheres to scope, budget, and schedule. The manager will collaborate with project development, operations, estimating, and project support teams throughout all project phases.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage project team activities for conceptualizing and developing designs of significant building and infrastructure projects during the design phase
  • Collaborate with the project team to define the scope and sequence of design delivery, including early release packages
  • Establish a culture of accountability within the design team and communicate project expectations to designers regarding document development and construction budget
  • Establish project-specific information management systems and communication protocols during the design phase
  • Drive design schedules by leading or participating in design team and OAC (owner/architect/contractor) meetings
  • Manage change management logs throughout the design phase, including cost and schedule impact
  • Coordinate review cycles among the project team and manage Alberici’s risk related to scope creep, gaps, and constructability issues, driving value engineering activities
  • Maintain a detailed RFP compliance matrix to validate design meets owner’s requirements
  • Provide program validation for building systems and owner-provided process equipment support requirements
  • Collaborate with the estimating team on cost trend logs and lead designers to adjust designs to remain within the construction budget
  • Assist estimating and operations teams with screening of trade partners and suppliers and reviewing construction bids
  • Collaborate with the VDC team to establish and execute a project-specific BIM implementation plan
  • Support operations/construction during construction and close-out by managing the design team through design changes and issue resolution
  • Assist the Director, Design Integration in developing design integration tools, templates, and best practices
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for a specific discipline, performing peer reviews and constructability reviews
  • Support project development teams during pre-proposal and project pursuit phases, including capture strategy collaboration and client presentation participation
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals from primary and specialty design consultants and participate in negotiation of design contracts on design-build (DB) and engineer-procure-construct (EPC) projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in civil/geotechnical design
  • 5+ years in a single-discipline or multi-discipline project management role
  • Previous experience on design-build projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related technical field
  • 10 years of experience in civil/geotechnical design, including 5 years in a single-discipline or multi-discipline project management role, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience on design-build projects.
