The Deputy Utilities Director will manage and guide the Utilities Department, overseeing engineering, capital improvements, and water resources while supporting treatment and distribution operations. This role focuses on delivering high-quality essential services to protect public health and enhance community quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, manage, and supervise assigned activities of the Utilities Department
- Oversee engineering, capital improvements, and water resources
- Support water treatment and water distribution operations
- Manage solid waste, recycling, and related special projects
- Manage budgets and define rates through detailed cost of service studies
- Prioritize and implement Capital Improvements for the Engineering section
- Ensure professional interaction with residents, counterparts, and Department Heads
- Delegate and problem-solve to ensure timely completion of projects
Requirements
- Registered Professional Civil or Mechanical Engineer in the State of California
- 6+ years of progressively responsible professional utilities operations or civil engineering experience
- 3+ years of administrative and supervisory responsibility
- Bachelor's degree in public/business administration, environmental science, civil engineering or related field
- Expertise in leading Utilities projects (engineering, capital improvements, water supply, treatment, distribution, solid waste, recycling)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, environmental science, civil engineering or a closely related field.
- At least six (6) years of progressively responsible professional utilities operations or civil engineering experience to include at least three (3) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
