Lead the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of a power plant as a Control Room Operator, monitoring and documenting various plant process components to ensure proper operational function and performing corrective actions. Maintain environmental standards while ensuring plant safety and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Start-up, operate, shut down, and secure equipment under normal and emergency conditions from the control room or in the field
- Troubleshoot and perform basic mechanical skills to assist with preventative and reactive maintenance activities
- Understand process components to properly access and carry out equipment and system’s proper lock out-tagout (LOTO)
- Ensure all plant rounds are completed for inspections of facility machinery for malfunctions or potential failures
- Maintain all required logs and records to document complete operating conditions and report irregularities
- Understand, perform, and ensure the completion of facility water chemistry testing and active dosing/adjustment of control treatment chemicals
- Identify hazardous and/or unsafe conditions or work practices, notify supervisor, and take corrective action
- Monitor process variable feedback from controls for variances and respond to ensure continued safe, reliable, and cost-effective power generation
- Perform and ensure routine preventive maintenance of components associated with ash removal, boiler, and fuel systems
- Develop and maintain operating procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation
Requirements
- Power Plant operations and/or maintenance experience
- Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineer License
- 1 or 2 years related experience and/or training in a similar position
- Knowledge of combustion conditions, gas burner, boiler and turbine generator operations, and water treatment
- Basic computer skills, including data entry
- Basic math skills
- Good verbal communications skills
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in power plant operation and maintenance
Qualifications
- 1-2 years related experience and/or training in a similar position, plus power plant operations and/or maintenance experience
