About This Role

This role involves supervising a team of construction inspectors to ensure high-quality construction work aligns with plans and specifications. The incumbent assists the Project Engineer and works independently to interpret unforeseen conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of construction inspectors engaged in inspection of construction projects including PCC Pavement, Asphaltic Concrete, Embankment and Base Course, Pipe Conduit, Pile Driving, and Bridge Construction.
  • Assign and review work for subordinates, overseeing their monitoring of contractor's personnel for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Supervise necessary surveying for earthwork quantity computation.
  • Coordinate subordinate scheduling with contractor's work schedules.
  • Supervise the establishment of project documentation including daily diaries, plant data, testing reports, and field books.
  • Review computations for pay quantities through daily measurement and record keeping to compile monthly pay estimates.
  • Conduct project close-out and origination procedures, assist in creating change orders, and review construction schedules.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, approve leave requests, determine schedules, and resolve employee disputes.
  • Instruct and train subordinates in proper construction techniques and Sampling and Testing procedures for quality and quantity of materials, including in situ testing with a Nuclear Density/Moisture Gauge.
  • Perform other duties as necessary, including emergency/disaster support activities and managing projects outside of typical roadway construction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection/maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus five years of experience in construction inspection/maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR Thirty semester hours in architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR a bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR Possession of an engineer intern certificate.
  • Five years of experience in construction inspection or maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures.

Nice to Have

  • Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance
  • Thirty semester hours in architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology
  • Possession of an engineer intern certificate
