The Construction Field Inspector (Rail) will provide day-to-day construction oversight, assist with documentation, coordination, and quality assurance, and play a key role in delivering complex infrastructure projects for public agencies. This role involves overseeing contractor activities, managing junior inspectors, and ensuring compliance with project standards and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Administer portions of contracts, maintaining records for potential change orders, claims, and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate, inspect, review, and affirm results of tests on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and soils.
- Conduct complex construction inspections, notify the Resident Engineer or Construction Manager of problems, and offer solutions.
- Ensure construction materials are acquired from approved sources and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Oversee daily activities of inspection personnel, ensuring detailed activity reports are completed and accepting or rejecting contractor's work.
- Review and comment on standards, plans, specifications, special provisions, and technical/constructability issues.
- Supervise/perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of construction.
- Inspect and approve maintenance of traffic including lane closures, deep excavation, and underground structures.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of construction experience (transit, excavation support, utilities, roadway, highway, bridge)
- Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and supervise others effectively.
- Extensive knowledge of construction standards, specifications, and materials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid Driver's License
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management preferred; or NICET III/NICET IV Certification
- 3-5 years of experience in construction including transit, support of excavation, utilities, roadway, highway and/or bridge construction experience.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Basic knowledge of Trimble Unity Construct (e-Builder), SharePoint, and Bluebeam.
- Experience with public agencies.
