Maintain, clean, and repair sewage distribution lines, manholes, lift stations, and other sewage facilities and equipment. Operate specialized vehicles for inspection and cleaning, and respond to sewer-related complaints.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, clean and repair sewage collection lines, manholes, lift stations and other sewage facilities and equipment
- Perform surveillance, monitoring, and minor repair of stationary equipment like lift stations
- Maintain daily records of the operation and maintenance of stationary equipment
- Operate portable pumps, ventilators, generators, pneumatic tools, and gas detectors
- Perform field maintenance of equipment to assure its proper operation
- Respond to complaints concerning sewer odors, blockages, and noisy manhole covers
- Train and assist Collection System Technician I personnel
- Operate hydro/combination jetter truck, television inspection vehicle, and utility trucks
- Responsible for traffic control, safety procedures, and interpreting sewer atlas utilizing GIS
- Participate in a scheduled standby program
Requirements
- Equivalent to high school graduation
- Two (2) years of experience in sewer maintenance or related field
- Valid Class ‘C’ California Driver’s License
- CWEA Grade II Collection System Maintenance certificate required within 9 months of hire/promotion
- Knowledge of traffic control practices and requirements
- Knowledge of safety policies and safe work practices applicable to the work
- Ability to interpret sewer atlas/geographic information systems and record drawings
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and equipment common to collection systems and maintenance
Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent is required. Completion of water utility related college courses is preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in sewer maintenance or related field is required
Nice to Have
- Completion of water utility related college courses
- Valid Class ‘A’ California Driver's License (desired within 11 months of hire)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel)
