Enforce international, federal, and state commercial motor carrier laws at a fixed weigh station, regulating and enforcing laws individually or with other officers to protect Montana's highway system and ensure public safety.
Responsibilities
- Enforce international, federal, and state commercial motor carrier laws at a fixed weigh station
- Regulate and enforce laws individually or with other officers in densely populated and remote areas
- Exercise autonomous decision-making authority on regulation and enforcement issues
- Enforce height, width, and weight restrictions
- Enforce vehicle licensing and motor fuel tax requirements
- Enforce hazardous material transportation restrictions
- Enforce vehicle, operator, and load safety regulations
- Maintain Montana's eligibility for full highway construction funding
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- US Citizen
- At least 18 years of age
- Pass fingerprint criminal records check
- No felony convictions
- Good moral character verified by background investigation
- Free from mental or physical conditions adversely affecting peace officer duties
- Pass the 4-part National Police Officer Selection Test (pre-employment)
- Complete the Montana Physical Abilities Test (MPAT) (pre-employment)
- Pass pre-employment drug test
- Graduate from MLEA or equivalent (post-employment)
- Retain a basic certificate from Montana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
- Take a formal Oath of Office
- Successfully complete a structured Field Officer Training (FTO) program
