This role involves participating in the care of patients in a clinic setting, focusing on conducting ophthalmic tests, maintaining patient records, and assisting physicians. You will greet patients, perform diagnostic procedures, and educate them on medications and post-operative instructions.
Responsibilities
- Interact with patients to accurately gather information and enter it into the electronic medical records system
- Proactively engage patients about their visit expectations and communicate any delays or changes
- Initiate and perform documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and past medical history
- Accurately record all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements
- Conduct tests and measures eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity
- Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
- Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments, including preparing patients for sterile procedures
- Educate patients regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post-operative instructions, as directed by physicians
- Scribe for physicians
- Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential, following all HIPAA requirements
- Utilize effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate any dissatisfied patients
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications
- Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions
- Assist team members and complete other special projects as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50lbs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 0-3 years of experience, entry level
Nice to Have
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- 0-3 years of Experience
