Clinical Lab Assistant I

About This Role

Assist technical lab staff with the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens, preparing them for analytical testing and performing waived or limited moderate complexity testing under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Process and prepare patient samples including specimen collection, identification, and integrity checks
• Perform general and referral laboratory specimen processing
• Perform waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision, meeting performance standards
• Demonstrate understanding of departmental computer systems
• Track and locate missing specimens, and monitor pending lists
• Perform maintenance activities on laboratory equipment as directed
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work, meeting department productivity and quality standards
• Perform quality control for testing as directed by technical staff and basic troubleshooting
• Communicate technical concerns to technical staff and document deviations from procedures
• Participate in departmental financial responsibilities, inventory management, and cost reduction initiatives
• Perform miscellaneous support duties including phlebotomy and training, contributing to document updates
• Communicate courteously, professionally, and effectively with internal and external customers

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have

• Previous clinical laboratory experience
• Successful completion of a laboratory assistant program
• Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and handling
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Additional related education and/or experience
