The Clinical Assistant Professor in Music Therapy will play a crucial role in coordinating the practicum and clinical training aspects of the music therapy program at Utah State University, ensuring collaboration with faculty and evaluating student skills. This role involves teaching undergraduate courses and maintaining community relationships to establish clinical training opportunities for music therapy majors.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Program Director and music therapy faculty in determining student placements in field training experiences and assigning respective field supervisors
- Assume full responsibility for content development and instruction related to the weekly Practicum Seminar Class
- Maintain ongoing relationships with existing practicum placement sites and establish new sites and clinical training opportunities for aspiring music therapists.
- Teach undergraduate courses within the music therapy curriculum as needed, including functional music skills and introductory courses
- Assist in ongoing evaluations of student interpersonal and pre-professional skills to determine readiness for clinical field experiences/practicum and internship
- Assist with yearly auditions to evaluate students applying for admission to the music therapy program
Requirements
- Master’s degree in music therapy or related area
- Minimum of three years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in part-time work
- Appropriate professional credential or designation in music therapy
- Record of continuing education in music therapy
- Record of continuing education relevant to teaching responsibilities
- Effectiveness as a music therapy clinician in at least one area of practice
- Suitable portfolio of research and creative activity with demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence
- Mastery of all professional level and applicable advanced competencies in music therapy
- Ability to teach and clinically supervise undergraduate students
- Knowledge/experience in clinical uses of technology
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in music therapy or related area, with a minimum of transcripted graduate credits equivalent to 12 semester hours OR the equivalent of graduate credits in music therapy beyond the undergraduate equivalency requirements
- Minimum of three years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in part-time work
Nice to Have
- Prior undergraduate teaching/supervision experience
- Advanced clinical competence/expertise in at least one area of music therapy
