About This Role

Provide excellent customer service to agents, insureds, and claimants, resolving basic issues and directing inquiries to appropriate departments. Support underwriting by processing submission steps and updating customer information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to agents, insureds, claimants, and others contacting the Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies or National Indemnity group of insurance companies
  • Resolve most basic issues and questions, and route calls or emails to the appropriate department or individual
  • Support Underwriting departments by processing various submission steps, including indexing and preparing resource documents
  • Provide submission status updates to agents via phone and/or email
  • Correct and/or update address and contact information in various systems
  • Process written requests from agents and insureds for copies of policy loss runs
  • Explain the loss run request process via phone and/or email to agents and/or insureds

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One or more years work experience
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Superior English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Documentation skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to organize time and resources and handle multiple high priorities
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work with detail with accuracy

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and two years college or equivalent work experience
  • One or more years work experience

Nice to Have

  • Basic insurance terms and coverages knowledge
  • Type 35 wpm with accuracy
  • Knowledge of commercial automobile and property rating and policy coverages and endorsements
  • Knowledge of Company guidelines on acceptability and profitability for applications/accounts/policies
  • Knowledge of Company, Agency, and department practices and procedures
