Classroom Paraprofessional/Special Education/Bus Monitor

About This Role

This role provides instructional assistance to students under the supervision of a certified teacher, focusing on the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. It also involves assisting with classroom activities and safely transporting students as a bus monitor.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional assistance to students under direct supervision of a certified teacher
• Help meet physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in self-contained units and regular classrooms
• Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs
• Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities
• Operate school vehicles and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons
• Ride buses and help driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of students

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate
• Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and/or School Bus (S) endorsements
• Must be 18 years of age
• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Ability to manage student behavior
• Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses
• Ability to communicate effectively with others

Qualifications

• High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
• Some experience working with children
