As a Civil/Structural Engineering - Technical Lead, you will lead new project initiatives focusing on civil and structural design elements, overseeing the design and analysis of these components. This role involves applying expertise in structural engineering principles to develop innovative solutions for support structures, concrete foundations, and steel systems, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to code.
Responsibilities
- Perform, review, comment, and approve engineering design and structural analysis for steel structures and concrete foundations
- Collect, review, interpret, and integrate design requirements from customers, suppliers, and the parent company
- Prepare and review engineering technical requirements to support the overall project proposal and bid strategy
- Engage in technical conversations with customers on behalf of the Civil/Structural Team to address project needs and provide expert guidance
- Collaborate with all stakeholders, including Supply Chain Management, Quality Controls, Construction Services, Project Management, and other Engineering Teams
- Support the simplification and standardization of product designs to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs
- Enhance structural design standards for turbine generator foundations, air intake filter houses, equipment enclosures, and piping supports
- Conduct regular meetings with international engineering partners to ensure successful design implementation
- Lead periodic reviews of the civil/structural team's execution schedule, expedited engineering activities, escalated critical needs, and report on technical delivery status
- Train designated engineers in performing structural analysis, preparing calculation reports, and applying sound engineering judgment
- Monitor and assess the workload of Civil/Structural team members, proactively communicating with the team manager to balance assignments and maintain efficiency
- Prepare and review budgets, bids, technical requirements, and commercial requirements
- Ensure arrangement and foundation interface information meets requirements
- Interface with internal and external teams to ensure that design interface information for structural commodities is accurate and properly accounted for
- Complete projects on time, in budget, and in accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Offer insights to the team manager on individual performance of assigned Civil/Structural personnel to inform evaluations and foster continuous improvement
- Collaborate in recruiting and onboarding qualified candidates to strengthen the Civil/Structural team’s capabilities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- 10+ years of experience in a related engineering field
- Strong familiarity with ASCE 7, IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, OSHA, and industry standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related engineering field. Experience in gas turbine design, auxiliary systems, nuclear engineering, or foundations for rotating equipment is strongly preferred.
Nice to Have
- Experience in gas turbine design, auxiliary systems, nuclear engineering, or foundations for rotating equipment
- Familiarity with AISC 341, ACI 351, DIN 4024, ISO 1940
- Familiarity with Smart Plant 3D/ Tekla/ Revit
- Familiarity with STAAD.Pro/ SAP2000/ GT Strudl
- Familiarity with AutoCAD/ MicroStation
