The Child Support Specialist I/II maintains and manages a moderate caseload of child support cases, applying critical thinking to establish, modify, enforce, and collect child support obligations. This role ensures positive outcomes while adhering to state and federal guidelines, covering key service areas like Accounting, Intake, Enforcement, Establishment, and Modification.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Ensure cases comply with Colorado Revised Statutes and other child support regulations.
- Prepare moderately complex legal documents for attorney use in court hearings.
- Research, analyze, and interpret court orders and financial documents to calculate child support amounts and arrears.
- Collaborate with various jurisdictions and Human Services agencies to establish and enforce support orders.
- Monitor and verify case activity for timely and appropriate processing.
- Update and maintain case information in ACSES and Electronic Document Management System.
- Maintain a detailed, chronological case history.
- Enter complex data through multiple County and State computer systems.
- Conduct locate functions to gather contact, employment, and financial information.
- Manage day-to-day communication with clients, employers, and agencies, providing explanations of child support regulations.
- Ascertain barriers and make referrals for additional services.
- Participate in State and Federal Workgroups.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1 year experience working with the public in a professional office or administrative position (Child Support Specialist I)
- 1 year experience working with the public in a public assistance program (Child Support Specialist II)
- Pass pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes (interviews, reference checks, background checks)
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI
- Central Registry/TRAILS check
- Child Support Registry check
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1 year experience working with the public in a professional office or administrative position (for Level I) or 1 year experience in a public assistance program (for Level II).
