About This Role

This role primarily involves accurately documenting medical procedures and patient information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) under the direct oversight of a medical provider. Additionally, you will assist with direct patient care tasks such as taking medical histories and coordinating scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures in the EHR, including patient chief complaint, medical history, review of systems, physical exam, procedures, treatments, and orders.
  • Record provider-dictated diagnoses, codes, prescriptions, and instructions for patients.
  • Look up past medical records, and track and enter results as directed by the provider.
  • Review and verify documentation against requirements for assigned codes, ensuring all addenda are signed by the provider.
  • Proofread and edit medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Comply with documentation compliance standards, legal, and ethical requirements for medical records and patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare referral letters as directed by the provider and ensure timely delivery with pertinent reports or tests.
  • Assist with patient procedures and taking patient medical histories.
  • Instruct patients about medications, tests, and procedures.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling, and supervise and train other allied ophthalmic personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of Medical Assistant program
  • Credentialed as CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), or NCMA (NCCT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Proficient in typing (minimum 40 words per minute)
  • Good at spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication
  • Ability to listen to complex medical information and summarize clearly
  • Excellent English composition skills
  • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Certificate of completion of Medical Assistant program.
  • Experience working with medical providers and allied health professionals. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
