This fellowship drives legal work in Washington, focusing on litigation, policy advocacy, and community engagement for forest protection and keystone species using an ecocentric approach. It involves taking ownership of discrete legal projects and advancing Earth law.
Responsibilities
- Support ongoing litigation challenging timber sales in the Elwha Watershed
- Build partnerships to draft and launch innovative litigation aimed at decolonizing forest management
- Research and draft legal memos, policy briefs, and legislation supporting campaigns
- Provide strategic support to the Elwha Legacy Forest coalition and engage with other forest advocacy coalitions
- Support priority forest protection campaigns
- Support Rights of Nature initiatives at the state and local level
- Assist with organizing in-person and online events
- Contribute to public education and movement-building efforts
- Travel to some in-person events and meetings
Requirements
- J.D.
- Passion for protecting forests, rivers, and all creatures
- Interest or experience in bioregionalism, Rights of Nature, Earth Law
- Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills
- Able to manage time independently and work remotely
Qualifications
- J.D.
Nice to Have
- Washington bar admission preferred
- Familiarity with Washington local and state politics
- Experience with community organizing
