Supervise and coordinate a team of skilled and unskilled staff in carpentry and painting activities for the University of Virginia's facilities, ensuring structural integrity, functionality, and appearance. This role emphasizes maintaining architectural consistency across both historic landmarks and modern academic settings, upholding historic preservation standards while meeting contemporary operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead skilled and unskilled staff in the maintenance and renovations of buildings and equipment
- Provide excellent customer service and communication
- Supervise and train employees specializing in carpentry and painting
- Prioritize work and delegate assignments for timely and efficient project completion
- Recommend or initiate personnel actions and administer organizational policies
- Provide information for record-keeping and management of supply and equipment resources
- Maintain accurate work order records and timecards within the work order system
- Plan and schedule projects and maintenance work, making modifications as necessary
- Coordinate skilled trade support from FM’s specialty trades and outside vendors
- Respond to urgent repair needs outside of normal working hours
- Collaborate with historic preservationists, supervisors, and project managers
- Solve technical problems and stay current with new products and techniques
- Inform customers of job status, delays, and manage customer referrals to the manager
- Foster a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations
- Provide support for events and coordinate staff availability
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in carpentry operations trade
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of seven years of experience in all aspects of carpentry operations trade; two or more years of supervisory and/or leadership experience strongly preferred.
Nice to Have
- 2+ years of supervisory and/or leadership experience
