Camper Support Specialist

About This Role

The Camper Support Specialist coordinates with camp administration and staff to assist campers with diverse abilities and social/emotional needs to engage positively in camp. This role involves developing individual support plans, communicating with families, and providing guidance to camp staff on behavior management.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the Camp Support Team, including leading weekly meetings to review camper concerns
• Develop and create individual support plans tailored to each child's uniqueness and interests
• Act as a liaison to families and support systems, facilitating ongoing communication
• Provide direct support and guidance to camp staff in meeting camper needs and intervening to resolve problems
• Provide ongoing training and guidance to front-line counselors on minimizing common behavior problems
• Monitor camp groups for behavior trends, both positive and negative
• Create a culture of positive support and behavior management
• Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures
• Ensure the working environment meets high standards of cleanliness and maintenance
• Attend Camp Leadership Meetings

Requirements

• 2+ years related work experience
• Understanding of positive behavioral approaches and Positive Youth Development
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills
• Professionalism with staff, parents, and participants

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Child Psychology, Human Services or a related field; or working toward such a degree
• Minimum of Two years related work experience. Some camp experience is preferred.
