This role involves creating engaging and safe environmental education experiences for campers aged 5-17 at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden. The Camp Assistant works with a Camp Lead to facilitate activities and foster an appreciation for wildlife and nature.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Camp Lead in teaching scripted, animal- and plant-oriented programs, including handling biofacts
- Prepare teaching aids and craft activities
- Complete associated preparatory and clean-up work
- Monitor campers for allergy, notification, and behavioral alerts
- Supervise and assist children for the duration of camp
- Interact appropriately with camp parents and zoo staff
- Provide a safe learning environment and follow all OKC policies and procedures
- Work closely with the Camp Lead to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Serve as a positive role model for campers, encouraging teamwork, respect, and empathy
- Be flexible and adaptable to changes in schedule, activities, and camper needs
- Report concerns or issues to the Camp Lead and Program Supervisor
- Supervise lunchtime activities
- Work collaboratively with other camp staff members to ensure smooth operation
Requirements
- At least sixteen (16) years of age
- One month of experience working with children or equivalent
- Ability to pass pre-employment and/or periodic background checks and restricted registry checks
Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- One month of experience working with children or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Certifications
CPR/1st Aid certification within 30 days of hire
