CAD Technician

About This Role

This CAD Technician will acquire project data, create precise 3D surface and site models for civil construction projects, and ensure data quality. The role supports project management by generating quantity takeoffs and assisting the estimating team with bidding.

Responsibilities

• Proactively acquire all necessary project data, including CAD files, control points, plan changes, and revisions from clients and engineers
• Utilize software such as Agtek, Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Center to develop precise 3D surface and site models from 2D plans and survey data
• Meticulously verify that all created 3D models and data accurately and completely represent the contractual plans and specifications
• Generate initial earthwork and material quantity takeoffs and compute updated progress takeoffs using field-provided topographic surveys and processed drone flight data
• Package and deliver completed models and all supporting data in a standardized company format to the Field Technology Coordinator for field implementation
• Clearly communicate any complexities, revisions, or potential issues discovered during the modeling process
• Provide takeoff quantities and modeling needs to support project bidding and lend training and expertise to PM staff for accurate estimates

Requirements

• Proficiency in reading and understanding heavy civil construction plans (earthwork, utilities, site-work)
• Experience with 3D modeling and takeoff software (e.g., Agtek, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar)
• Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for accuracy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify plan discrepancies
• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
• Entry level with 2+ years preferred in a similar role for a heavy civil contractor

Nice to Have

• 2+ years of experience in a similar role for a heavy civil contractor
• Expert-level knowledge of Trimble Business Center (TBC) and Agtek
