About This Role

This role supports small businesses and entrepreneurs in Germantown's commercial corridors by providing direct assistance, conducting outreach, and maintaining accurate data for economic development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one technical assistance to microenterprise owners on financial readiness, capital access, business planning, and regularization
  • Serve as a consistent point of contact for corridor businesses regarding City programs and resources
  • Conduct door-to-door outreach to ensure all businesses in the target area are visited and documented annually
  • Assist business owners with applications for City-funded programs like Storefront Improvement and In-Store Forgivable Loan Programs
  • Coordinate with Business Development Manager on business attraction, relocation, retention, and expansion efforts
  • Maintain accurate business case files documenting outreach, assistance provided, referrals, and outcomes
  • Collect and update data on active businesses, microenterprises, vacant commercial properties, and business changes
  • Distribute surveys, newsletters, and program information to corridor businesses
  • Contribute to quarterly reports for the Philadelphia Department of Commerce, ensuring timely and compliant documentation
  • Use Google Drive and Monday.com systems to track required contract metrics and deliverables

Requirements

  • Experience providing business services, small business support, case management, or business operations assistance
  • Comfort working in the field and conducting door-to-door outreach with diverse business owners
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially related to documentation and reporting
  • Ability to build trust with community members and demonstrate cultural humility

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional/lived experience in business, finance, community development, or a related field
  • Experience providing business services, small business support, case management, or business operations assistance

  • Knowledge of Philadelphia’s small business ecosystem, permitting processes, or financing programs
